So Much News!

Posted at May 11, 2018 6:15 pm

I just wanted to put out a small update. I haven’t blogged in a while, but I think it might be a good way to keep some readers updated. So onto the news…

Edge of Defiance is almost here! YAY!!! It’s on it’s final round of edits with my fab editor Faith. It’ll be out May 23rd in all stores. I’m very excited to see what you think of Derrick and Cassie all grown up.

Until then I wanted to let you know of a box set that I’ve put out. All proceeds go to Wounded Warriors Canada. It’s Edge novels 4-6. And here’s a little secret. It’ll be going on sale in the beginning of June. So if you’d like to buy it at full price, know that any profit will be going to a great charity!

Wounded Warriors Canada helps Veterans, serving military personnel, first responders, and their families with PTSD. This year, like last year, I’ll be joining the Battlefield Bike Ride thats riding 600 km (gasp) through Bosnia and Croatia. The ride will take our cyclists to places of significance to Canadian Armed Forces members and their families who served in the Balkan theatre, culminating at the site of the battle of the Medak Pocket. I’m sure it’s going to be an amazing and eye-opening experience, especially since we’ll be hearing first-hand accounts from veterans on the ride.

Well that’s all for now.

Happy Reading!!

Edge of Fury Available NOW!

Posted at May 25, 2017 6:17 pm

I’m so thrilled that Edge of Fury is finally here! I love Marc and Quinn’s story. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

E.D.G.E. Security is a covert international organization that handles jobs most governments won’t. The operators are the elite of the elite, soldiers and spies, chosen for their skills and secrecy, and their ability to go beyond the edge.

In the jungles of Colombia, it’s spy vs. spy, man vs woman, passion vs duty…

 Tell No One

Quinn Sinclair has worked hard and sacrificed much to become one of the only female operatives with the British Special Reconnaissance Regiment. Undercover as a medic in the Colombian jungle, Quinn is single minded in her assignment until the night a rescue mission goes awry. Instead of saving an innocent hostage from a drug lord she finds herself treating a sexy, wounded soldier, a man likely working for the enemy. Her new task? Maintain her cover, keep an eye on the enemy and guard the secret she carries at all costs. It should be easy except this soldier has a way of seeing right through her, making her feel things she’s never felt before.

 Trust No One

EDGE operator Marc Koven doesn’t trust easily, no spy does. When a mission goes wrong and he ends up wounded and in the hands of a fiery and beautiful medic, he’s immediately suspicious. Something about Quinn makes his blood boil. She’s a woman with secrets. Secrets he wants to unravel. But he won’t let her endanger his mission. He’s been taught to keep his enemies close and that’s exactly what he’s going to do. However, the closer he gets the more Quinn challenges him, tempting him to do something stupid like haul her up against him and kiss the secrets right out of her.

 Love No One

Forced together for the sake of the mission, Quinn and Marc must face the dangers of the jungle, fight a vicious drug cartel, and tame their overwhelming desire for each other. To survive, they must learn to trust one another above all else or be swept over the edge of fury.

Don’t forget to pick up EDGE of Control FREE for a limited time!

EDGE Security Novel 1

E.D.G.E. Security is a covert international organization that handles jobs most governments won’t. The operators are the elite of the elite, soldiers and spies, chosen for their skills and secrecy, and their ability to go beyond the edge.

E.D.G.E wants to recruit Navy SEAL Jake ‘College’ Harrison but he’s skeptical of the good he can do as an E.D.G.E. operator. His trial assignment is a simple recon mission with the target being the Russian mob. The only interesting aspect is the sexy IT tech, but Jake doesn’t want or need any trouble in his life and Dani has trouble written all over her.

No one knows who Danielle Everett really is, beyond the fact that she works as a simple tech at E.D.G.E. Security company. The new hire who gets the operator job she covets, frustrates her as much as he attracts her, because he digs beneath her carefully constructed identity and she has to fight the urge to run. But when Dani’s best friend goes missing, she uses the hacking and thieving skills she’d learned as a child to find her, but in the process alerts her enemies that she’s still alive. Can she trust Jake to help her escape and save her friend, or will she push him to the edge of his control?

Edge of Honor is HERE!

Posted at Oct 19, 2016 9:18 pm

The wait is over!  Edge of Honor is now available!!

E.D.G.E. Security is a cover for a covert international organization that handles jobs most governments won’t. The operators are the elite of the elite, soldiers and spies, chosen for their skills and secrecy, and their ability to go beyond the edge.

An Esteemed Scientist

Dr. Charlotte Singh loves her job as head of research for EDGE Security, but she secretly yearns for field work and the promise of adventure it holds. At a conference in London, Charlotte finally gets her chance. But working an op isn’t everything she imagined, and the one person who can help her is a dangerously rugged Scotsman who isn’t interested in being part of anyone’s team.

A Disgraced Soldier

Jack Sinclair was kicked out of the British SAS after a mission gone horribly wrong. Now he’s hunting whoever is responsible for the deaths of his men and completely focused on finding justice. He has nothing left but his mission and he won’t let anyone, not even a sexy scientist with a smart mouth, interfere with it.

Opposites don’t just attract, they explode.

When Charlotte’s life is threatened and she’s isolated from her team, Jack can no longer shut out the world or abandon the feisty woman who ignites something inside him. Hunted by terrorists, will Jack and Charlotte have to sacrifice themselves and their burgeoning attraction to the flames? Or will the city of London pay the price?

New Stories!

Posted at Jun 21, 2016 9:26 pm

A quick update for everyone. There will be two new stories coming! Edge of Honor will be coming in Aug or Sept (depending on edits). Yay! And there will be a new story just for my newsletter subscribers. I decided that you all might like to know how EDGE Security came about, so I’ve decided to write about Colonel Blackwell. He’s a driven man who gives everything to EDGE and doesn’t ask anything of his teams that he wouldn’t do himself. He’s a bit of a lone wolf especially when it comes to his social life.

Hmmmm. What kind of woman would he fall for?  😉

The new story is called Edge of Defiance. And it will be a serial that will come out in parts in my newsletter (once a month). I hope you’ll enjoy it. I’m having fun writing it. Look for my newsletter in July for Chapter One!

Book Addiction

Posted at May 4, 2016 3:53 am

Woman listening an audiobook on smartphone sitting between piles

We all have busy lives and we all have too many books we want to read. So many books and so little time! (I moan this all the time.) Usually when I’m writing and getting close to my deadline, I end up foregoing books. They distract me way too much. I’m totally the type of person who can’t stop reading and then has to stay up late to get my work done. Sigh.

I’m a book addict.

I thought I’d found a solution to my addiction, one that would let me get things done. Audio books! I’ve been listening to books while I cook, do groceries, drive my kids around, do laundry and any other chore that doesn’t take all my concentration. (I know technically driving should take all my concentration. 😉 )

Lately, I’ve been listening to Ilona Andrews’s Kate Daniels series. It’s urban fantasy about a truly awesome kickass heroine. I can’t recommend it enough. Unfortunately, it turns out that I’m still an addict. I’m addicted to the story. Once I start a story whether in paper, on audio or even on tv, I can’t seem to stop until I get to the end. I don’t just listen/read when I do my chores, I also listen/read when I’m supposed to be working. So this means, I still lose out on sleep so that I can get all my writing in and still read a book. Sigh. But at least with audio books, my house is cleaner and my kids are getting fed!

Is anyone else dealing with book addiction?

First Drafts

Posted at Apr 27, 2016 5:45 pm

Writing. The deadline for Edge of Honor is coming up fast. I hate asking for an extension with my editor so I’m pushing through. For me, every time I write, I hate my story at three points. Roughly the 25% mark, the 50% and the 75% part. These are the points when I want to stop writing, start a new story and generally think that I’m a crappy writer and the story is utter crap. I’m at the 75% mark and I think my story is boring, dull, and generally crappy. BUT I’m pushing through. Because as every writer knows. You can’t edit a blank page. And THANK GOD, I have a great editor.

Which brings me to another point. I truly value my editor. Jen Blood is amazing AND she gets my stories. I unfortunately didn’t use her on Edge of Courage and I believe the readers could tell. They could tell enough that I modified the story within a week of publishing it. Wow. Lesson learned. If something isn’t working don’t keep pushing it. (EXCEPT when it’s the first draft. haha)

So I’m working on Edge of Honor (and dealing with taxes!) and that’s about it at the moment. The life of a writer is sooo not exciting! I thought I’d leave you with a bit of eye candy. Here’s a picture that makes me think of Jack, my ex-SAS hero of Edge of Honor.

How I Didn’t Let a 220lb Man Kick My Ass….Much.

Posted at Apr 14, 2016 2:01 am

I like to kickbox. I used to do it when I was younger, before kids. And I missed it when I left. I couldn’t seem to make it to the gym with any regularity. I hated being the out-of-shape, exhausted, shirt-inside-out mom that couldn’t be counted on to make it to the gym. So I gave it up.

For years.

Then last spring I finally decided to join a martial arts gym in my area. I called first to ask about trying it out. It had been more than 10 years. Was I fooling myself? The head instructor politely informed me that he had other middle-aged women working out there and I could too.

Middle aged?! WTF?! I’m not middle– oh wait. Sigh. I might be. I am 44 years old.

But still! Middle-aged sounds like you’re now mediocre, mundane, and one step away from picking out your cemetery plot. I got fired up. The instructor had told me that women would be better off learning jujitsu for self-defense, and while that is very true, I didn’t want self-defense, I wanted to beat the shit out of something, to relieve stress, build muscles and act a little cray cray. I wanted to kickbox.

So I started going last spring. I can’t make it more than twice a week and sometimes not even that much, but I’m still going. And today we sparred. Like really sparred. Gloves, shin guards, mouth guards, the whole shebang. Of course today there were only two guys there and me. They both outweighed me by 50 to 75 pounds. But no worries, we were just sparring. Light taps instead of true hits. Sparring is amazing exercise, and you don’t get hurt. Because you’re not supposed to hit hard.

Until you hit hard.

The young guy (probably half my age) liked to throw a jab, cross, roundhouse combo. After one combo I threw a cross and he hadn’t covered his face, so I hit his nose. And then… it was on. He hit harder. Then I hit harder. And we both hit harder still.

And you know what?

It was exhilarating! This young guy no longer saw me as someone to just throw light punches with until he could spar with the men. We went at it. Yes, he was stronger and my one leg is definitely going to have some bruises, and yes, if he’d landed a good punch I would have been down for the count. But I still got some hits in too. (I landed them mostly on his face.) But the best thing of all? How amazing it felt to truly be considered an equal. We ended the round smiling.

Let’s hear it for middle-aged women! Take that, sucker!

Have you ever done a martial art? Or have you ever had an experience where you finally felt like you’d earned your place? I’d love to hear about it!
