Spring Break Fun

It’s spring break for my girls. And it’s tough to find the time to write, mostly because I’m enjoying hanging out with them. They ski race and we go to the mountains a lot. One of the benefits of living in Calgary is having the mountains in our backyard.

We’ve been enjoying the break and the great weather. Snow in the mountains and spring weather back in the city. Ski season is almost over and while I’m ready to have my weekends back, I will miss flying down the slopes (though not nearly as fast as my girls).

Besides skiing we’re catching up on all of the superhero shows we watch together. Flash, Arrow and Supergirl. Love those! I’m having a fun week with the people I love the most and I’m feeling very blessed and thankful.

Next week I’ll give an update on my work-in-progress (WIP) Edge of Honor. I am so loving these new characters!

I hope your week is going well!

Stress-free and Sick

Posted at Mar 23, 2016 6:13 pm

This past weekend I’ve finally let go of my book, Edge of Courage. More specifically, I’ve finally let go of the stress of whether people are enjoying this latest story. This is a huge stress all authors go through. We put our book babies (yes, we really call them that) out into the world and hope the world doesn’t pummel them. This latest story of mine got a bit pummeled at first, but it’s starting to hold its own. So, it’s time for me to stop hovering and move on.

So I did. And guess what happened? A huge stress left my life. I felt lighter and happier. It’s amazing how stress can affect us. (Of course, I immediately got a cold. Does that happen to anyone else? Stress leaves your life and then you get sick?)  But my new story is coming along nicely. I like it. It’s a little less serious than the last one, but still filled with thrills, a kick-ass heroine and a hunky hero. I’ll try to give you guys a little snippet next week. Or maybe a character bio of the hero or heroine.

Because I’m sick, my brain is a bit numb today. I was going to post a funny picture of my cat, Nika, but I can’t seem to get it to work. Argh. I should go back to bed.

I hope everyone’s week is healthy and happy.

Edge of Courage 2.0

Posted at Mar 11, 2016 2:58 pm in

Last week I published the fifth book of the EDGE series. I’m very happy about that, but I had a few niggling concerns about the story. I worried about it until my husband finally told me to just fix it. Wasn’t that why I’d gone Indie in the first place? To have the control to make changes as I needed?

Why yes! That is exactly why I went Indie. So I’ve been busy making the revisions I wanted. Nothing huge, just some editorial changes, mostly to the main character. I have since put the revised book up on Amazon. So if you’re in KU then you can grab the new one. If you bought it, then I apologize, but you’ll have to ask Amazon customer to update your kindle. (I’m so sorry, but they won’t push out a minor update.)

BUT you don’t have to worry. There’s no major plot change and the ending is exactly the same. I just tweaked the heroine, hopefully to make her a more likable, enjoyable character. I was trying something new with this story and I didn’t love the results. So I tweaked.

What I’ve learned is that I need to trust myself AND to not release a book until I feel 100 percent about it. We all need to learn to trust ourselves and that gut feeling when something’s not right.

Edge of Courage Released!

Posted at Mar 3, 2016 5:11 am

Yay! Edge of Courage is released and available on Amazon.

Here’s the blurb to entice you.  😉

E.D.G.E. Security is a covert international organization that handles jobs most governments won’t. The operators are the elite of the elite, soldiers and spies, chosen for their skills and secrecy, and their ability to go beyond the edge.

Ex-CIA operative Sarah ‘Ghost’ Ramirez likes to work alone. Life has taught her not to depend on anyone. So she has no problem when EDGE sends her to Iraq to infiltrate ISIS, the terrorist organization. But living undercover in a war-torn city overseen by brutal fanatics takes its toll on her. Sarah wants out, but can’t bring herself to leave the people who need her despite the personal cost to her spirit. Only her cherished memories of the man she left behind lets her endure the burden.

Dylan ‘Cowboy’ Richards is a hotshot helicopter pilot for EDGE. He’s been raised to protect others, even when they don’t want protecting. He’s on a rescue op in Mosul, Iraq when he finds out his contact is the woman who walked away from him five months ago without saying goodbye. He wants nothing more to do with Sarah Ramirez, but can’t stop his instinctive need to help her.

When the rescue goes wrong, Sarah puts her life on the line so Dylan’s team can escape. Dylan refuses to leave her behind and ends up caught in her dangerous mission that threatens not just their lives, but their hearts and will take them to the edge of their courage.

Edge of Courage

I hope you enjoy. I’m taking the evening off to play nerf gun wars with my girls.

Happy Reading!

One Week to Edge of Courage!

Posted at Feb 23, 2016 4:55 pm

I have my final edits back for Edge of Courage. After I fix them then I just need to format and write the blurb – which is the back cover copy. Writing the blurb actually takes quite a bit of time. Trying to condense a 400 page story into 2 or 3 paragraphs is a skill that needs to be honed and practiced. I am not great at it which is why it takes me so long.

So I’m working hard this week, while at the same time trying to manage my family life which can get crazy as I’m sure you’ve all experienced. I have two girls who ski race (downhill not cross-country). One has a race this weekend three hours away and one has a speed camp at a mountain four hours away. So their lives are a bit busy at the moment, because of course, they don’t just have one sport. Sigh. Besides skiing and school they also have dance and basketball. Busy but fun times!  🙂

So Edge of Courage will be released next week. I’ll send out a newsletter as well as write it here on the blog. I hope you all have a great week!!

News and A Snippet

Posted at Feb 16, 2016 3:16 pm in , , ,

I’m still working to get the latest EDGE novel out and trying to write the next one. Being an indie writer is amazing, but can also be a bit overwhelming with everything that one needs to learn. Some days I feel like I can barely keep up. (Okay, I can’t actually keep up, I’m mostly drowning in all the stuff I have to do.) But I try to just keep what’s important in the number one position.

The story. Always the story. After writing I don’t have a lot of spare time for anything else, but I’m slowly chipping away at it. A friend wrote a great blog post about going after your dreams. Check it out. Steena Holmes

So an update… I am in copy edits for Edge of Courage. It will be released near the end of Feb. Book Six is being started and everything else is being handled. Mostly.

Here’s a snippet of Dylan and Sarah’s story for you…

He pulled her into his arms, whirling and putting her back against the helicopter. His mouth found hers and heat scorched him. Being with Sarah was like trying to fly in a hurricane. A wild ride, but something he wasn’t sure he’d survive.

He pulled back and stared into her heated eyes. “No more rules, Sarah.”

She leaned toward him without acknowledging what he’d said. He held her back, though his body craved her lips, her touch. “Did you hear me?”

“My rules are simple,” she said. “No strings. I thought a guy like you would love them.” She shifted as if to leave.

He tugged her back into his arms. Mine.

Then he frowned as her words hit him. “What do you mean, a guy like me?”

She quirked an eyebrow, but didn’t make any further move to get away. “You’re a player. You have a different woman hanging all over you every time you’re out.”

He brought his hands to her face and cradled it, keeping eye contact with her, wanting her to see the truth. “There has been no one but you since we met.”

They’d met on an off-books operation his sister Cat had dragged him into, and was the first mission he’d ever done with E.D.G.E.; not even his superiors at the Canadian Special Operations Regiment had known about it. They’d rescued some Nigerian schoolgirls. It had made him proud like few things ever had in his life. It was also when he’d first met Sarah Ramirez—code name Ghost.

She rolled her shoulders as if his words weighed too heavy on them. And he knew he was getting too serious for her. But damn if he didn’t want to push it. There was something about Sarah that stirred his protective instincts. Her mixture of toughness and vulnerability, and the occasional glimpse beneath her ever-present armor made him want to be the one she opened up for. But for now, he’d back off a little.

He ran his hands through her silky hair. “We have the whole night after the debrief. We don’t leave until oh-six-hundred. I’ll make you a deal. I let you use my body however you like for the whole night, and then you go rock-climbing with me when we get back.”

She smiled. “Rock-climbing?”

Gotcha.

“It’s amazing. You’ll love it.” He lifted her in his arms and she wrapped her legs around him. He groaned at the sensation of her heat being so close. He rubbed himself against her core. She sucked in a breath and her head fell back, inviting him. He kissed her ear and then dragged his lips down her neck. His breath grew ragged as a small moan escaped her.

“Deal?” he said, his voice a rough demand even to his own ears.

“Deal,” she whispered.

Here’s to a New Year!

Posted at Jan 13, 2016 5:00 pm

I know this is a bit late for a New Year’s post, but the holiday cray cray is only just fading for me. And hey, better late than never!

2015 has been an amazing year for me. Publishing three books and one novella was a lot of work, but so so gratifying. Especially since I actually found readers who enjoyed my work! I’m hoping 2016 will be just as fabulous.

Here’s some of the resolutions I’m going to try to keep.

  1. Treat my writing like the career it is, rather than the lowest priority item on the day’s to-do list. Somehow groceries, chores, and kid stuff always seems to come first. Well that has to change so that this lady can start getting enough sleep.
  2. I’m going to try to blog once a week. And send out a newsletter monthly. Hopefully with fun snippets of what I’m working on. Mostly I’m doing this because I’m not great with Facebook or twitter and I need to start connecting with my readers somewhere. Why not on my web site?
  3. Hmmmm. Drink less wine? Drink less tea? uhmmmm. No!

So, two resolutions seems to work for me then. 😉   They’re both related to work, but I think with number one. If I work hard during the day then I can be more present on the weekends and evenings for my family.

We’ll see how it goes. Next week, I’ll post a snippet so stay tuned.

Any resolutions you’d like to share?

Edge of Danger Released!

Posted at Oct 17, 2015 3:53 am

(I don’t often blog and I’m not sure I’ll be very regular about this but I thought I’d give it a try.)

I just wanted to thank you all for enjoying my latest release Edge of Danger. It’s climbed high on the lists at Amazon thanks to all of you wonderful readers.  YAY!  I can’t tell you all how happy I’ve been since I hit publish with my first book Edge of Control back in July. Life has been an amazing rollercoaster since then. Edge of Danger is the third release in the EDGE Security series and I hope to have many more.

Speaking of that, some of you have been asking about the next book. So here’s a little preview. I’ll be releasing a novella for the holidays. Edge of the Season will be released the first week of December. Jake and Dani are back and it’ll be a thrill ride. The next full book in the EDGE series will be released in January. Edge of Courage will feature Dylan and Sarah (Cowboy and Ghost for those of you who keep track of their handles.)

I’m so excited for both of these. And I can’t wait to get on to the other stories. I’ll post snippets in the upcoming weeks.

I love hearing from you all. Keep the emails (or comments) coming.

Happy Reading!

New Site… YAY!

Posted at Feb 26, 2015 11:15 pm

It’s been a long time since I’ve blogged, but I’m baaaack! And I’m so excited to finally have a new site to launch my books with. Thank you, Liz Bemis!!!  If anyone is looking for a talented designer to help them with a site then I would definitely point you in her direction. Affordable and fun!

And just an FYI, I probably won’t be blogging more than twice a month. I’m spending all of my time writing and editing and will probably only be on here when I’ve got something new to show you, OR I have a soapbox that I just MUST jump on 😉 .

For now, let me tell you that my E.D.G.E. series will be coming out this spring. I’m sooo excited to share these stories of smart, strong women and men, who go beyond the edge in order to protect and save lives.

Enjoy the site and let me know what you think!

Not Here Right Now

Posted at May 23, 2012 7:29 am

My brain is overtaxed and my schedule is overfull. I haven’t been able to write a post for quite a while now. Though I’ve had much to write about. I went to Calgary’s Comic Con (seriously cool and geeky). I had a fantastic trip to San Fran with people who are true friends. My mom came to visit and I’m in the midst of querying my second novel. Lots going on.

Unfortunately, my posting is going to be sporadic over spring and summer. I apologize, but that’s life for me right now. I hope you stay tuned. Until then here’s a little bit of funny to tide you over.

If you’ve read or heard about the Book Phenom 50 Shades of Grey then check out this SNL skit.
